Fixed point furnaces are used to create reference temperatures for the calibration of precision thermal cameras. To ensure that the thermal cameras are always pointing at the same target in the furnace, accurate and repeatable positioning is needed.

The customer has turned to PBA Systems for an automated thermal camera positioning machine.

1. For the fine motion, 3 z-axis stages rest on an XY stage which is driven by PBA Systems DX B Direct Drive Linear Motor  
2. The X axis of this stage uses PBA Systems DX50B-C4S linear motor
3. The Y axis uses 2 separate PBA Systems DX50B-C4S linear motors on separate tracks, connected in parallel to achieve more force
4. For the coarse long motion of over 6 meters, track system driven by Sanyo Denki rotary servomotor is used

This can be a model for any machine that requires exceedingly long stroke with fine adjustment upon reaching the desired position.

PBA Systems is able to advice on cost saving strategies such as this due to our vast experience in motion control.

This machine is used for cutting smartphone display panels. The machine has one 1320 mm long axis with five carriages (5 motors). The carriages carry moving knifes as shown in the diagram. Due to space limitation, the distance between two adjacent knives must be less than 60mm.

PBA Systems DX30B-C1S Ironless Linear Motor meets the motion profile requirements. However, the standard DX30B-C1S coil length is 61mm. We therefore had to create a customized design with a 58mm coil length and with cables running out on the side of the coil (as pictured).

PBA Systems DX B Linear Motors have met all the customer requirements and the machine is now used in production.

This machine is for printing computer image files directly unto printing plates, bypassing the need for films to create the printing plates.

The requirements are low velocity ripple and high repeatability motion profile, with easy assembly and maintenance.

The machine has one 1500mm axis, with a motor carriage load of 40kg and a maximum speed of 10 mm/sec. For this axis, the customer had initially been using ballscrew. Due to backlash, large friction and mechanical vibration, the resulting print quality is poor with bad consistency and blurred images. Furthermore, the ballscrew needs replacement every few months due to wear and tear. It is added maintenance cost.

The customer has decided to switch to PBA Systems DX B series Ironless linear motor to overcome these problems.

PBA Systems DX B Linear Motors have provided greater printing accuracy and consistency with sharper images and better overall print quality.
